Hummus with Caramelised Onion Relish

Make this delicious yet easy Hummus for your next food platter.

  • 1 cup chickpeas – drained & rinsed with water (retain liquid from can)

  • 1 clove garlic medium size

  • 2 tablespoon tahini sesame seeds paste

  • 1 + 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice freshly squeezed

  • 3 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil + extra for serving

  • Pinch salt per taste

  • 3-4 tablespoon drained liquid or cold water if required for consistency

  • 2 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander or parsley (optional) for serving

  • 2 tablespoon Caramelised Onion Relish and its liquid.


1. Place all but the extra lemon juice and extra liquid in a blender or mixer and blend until almost smooth.

2. Taste and add in additional lemon juice and/or salt for flavour and add additional liquid for consistency and blend again until smooth.

3. Cover and refrigerate until required. Prior to serving return to room temperature, swirl a generous helping of caramelised onion loosely on top plus some liquid with a drizzle of olive oil and chopped herbs.


Alternatively use store bought hummus and zoosh it up with our Caramelised Onion Relish, some fresh herbs & olive oil!
